Notes I’m building Fountain

Througout 2023 and 2024 I’ve been building on Fountain. Fountain is a shop starter kit for type foundries and designers. A box of ready-made templates and functionality, to get you going with selling you own fonts on you own terms.

It all started with a conversation with Andrei Robu from Typeverything. He was looking for someone to help build a type foundry website using Kirby CMS (or similar). I was already working on a – sort of – hybrid solution for myself so it was a good fit.

Andrei was looking for more complex stuff, things I’d never done that included Python. That – and having a few projects already – made me pass on the offer. By we talked about the possibility to make it into a plugin. And that idea really stuck on me. A few months later, projects had calmed down and I could focus on making a proof of concept.

Flash forward to 2024. That proof of concept worked fine. The core of Fountain took a few months. After that it was all about stability, flexibility and making sure it’s easy to use. Paddle made some changes and launched a new API, which improved Fountain a lot well, but also took some extra time. Much of 2024 has been writing documentation and preparing the plugin to be as flexible as possible. A few people are trying the an alpha release, and I’m hoping to launch soon.
